Vol. 71, No. 4
Editor: Tommy Lee

The Preliminaries
After parking somewhere near Albuquerque, and hiking a great distance to the Club meeting, I found the room to be entirely full. Therefore, I wound up sitting in Moses Jacob’s lap just in time to hear Alan Dunham give the Pledge of Allegiance. Tony Garza gave us the “Thought for the Day”, and frankly, I don’t recall what his thought was, but mine was something along the lines of “Holy smokes, where did all these people come from?” I soon discovered that we were in the middle of the Annual Scholarship Presentations.
Guests and Visitors
Our only visiting Rotarian was District Governor Sue Rokaw, an attorney from the Fisherman’s Wharf Club.
So many guests were introduced so quickly that I had to make an announcement that unless they were signed in on the guest sheet they wouldn’t be in the bulletin. Jim Spilman brought his wife DianeChris DeGabriele brought Joni DeGabrieleTrisha Tabayoyon brought Zoe Lalues and Cassiot McCueLowell Smith brought his wife Marilyn, and Harry Heim and Bill Bradfield were guests of someone. Chris DeGabriele emailed me to advise that his guests were the family of scholarship recipient Nicolle Miranda. Mother Wendy, father Jose and sister Camilla.
Announcements

Although we didn’t have any announcements at the meeting, I think it is important to announce that the Tocalino BBQ will be this Saturday, August 3 with cocktails at 6 pm and dinner at 7pm. It will be held as always at the Tocalino Deer Camp, located at the end of Vineyard Road. Look for the Rotary sign on the right, opposite the stables. Please drive SLOWLY past the stables to ensure the safety of horses and riders in the area. If your LAST name begins with the letter M to Z, please bring an appetizer. If your LAST name begins with the letter A to L, please bring a Dessert. $10 Per Person • Children under 11 Free. ENTRÉE AND SALAD PROVIDED. Since we don’t have a meeting this upcoming Friday, you can pay for dinner at the BBQ by Thorsson BBQ Crew. RSVP ASAP to Marsha Molloy at  mjmolloy@pacbell.net or (415) 328-7745. As of this date Marsha only had 28 people on her list of attendees and we normally have about 50 or more!

Each of the scholarships were presented by a representative of the scholarship. Each representative provided a brief statement of the qualifications, and intended school and career goals of each of the winners. Each of the recipients gave a brief statement acknowledging their gratitude. Some of them were quite touching and many exhibited fantastic public speaking qualities. Thank goodness, none of them said “thanks for the money, it should cover my beer tab for 4 years.”
The Winner
We didn’t have a drawing but I think we were all winners.
